Psalm 110:2 “The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.”
Moses stood before the Red Sea as the Egyptians closed in on the children of Israel with the intent of slaughtering every man, woman and child. Israel’s deliverer-leader was standing on the edge of eternity with nothing but faith in his heart and a rod in his hand. Moses’ faith lit the fire of God and He spoke to Moses saying, “But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.”
Moses obeyed God’s words and he stretched forth his hand, fearlessly holding the rod out over the water. The wind of the Holy Spirit began to blow, the waters began to part and dry land started to appear. As Moses stood fixed with the rod in place, he ordered the children of Israel to go forward between the water walls of the Red Sea.
Possibly, Moses alone knew the true maker of this miracle. He knew that it was not by his might or his own power. He knew it was indisputably his hand extended, but he alone knew the rod in his hand was not his to claim. Moses knew what he was holding was the “Rod of God.”
When God ordered Moses to part the waters of deliverance for the children of Israel, He told Moses to use the “Rod of God.” However, when He told him to close the walls of destruction on the Egyptians; He did not instruct Moses to use the rod. He told Moses to stretch forth only his hand. “Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.”
The Father used the “Rod of God” to save the children of Israel; however, He used the hand of a man to bring destruction to the Egyptians.
“Jesus, the Rod of God” was given for our salvation and our protection from the destructive hand of man. The Rod of God was present with Moses, who was the first deliverer. Then the Rod of God was personified in Jesus Christ, the second deliverer, as the Son of God. Now, this same Rod of God is still available to the hearts and for the hands of a third deliverer, which is His blood bought church.
As this Rod of strength comes forth out of Zion, we must take it up, extend it out, and use the resident power thereof to rule over our Red Sea enemies.
